It’s all a matter of perspective – Sometimes it is ok to have the blues in January.

Particularly if they are of the berry variety.   Oh no I hear you say that is going to cost me a fortune! And I haven’t paid off Christmas yet….. Well, Disney might know a thing or two…..frozen.

Yes it’s ok to use frozen berries as freezing them does not lose their health benefits.  You can either defrost the exact amount and put them in your porridge or natural yoghurt in the morning or go for the skinny dip and use them direct from the freezer in your protein shake.

My favourite is Koko coconut milk, hemp protein powder tablespoon of chia seeds and a tablespoon of Linwoods’ flax, pumpkin & sunflower seeds all blended with a good handful of frozen blueberries- scrumptious!

This is the perfect for people on the run, mums that have to spin the many plates also known as the ‘school run’ or those of us that head to the office each day before the sun comes up.

We know that blueberries are packed full of anti-oxidants (see my December blog) and they are one of nature’s ‘super foods’ but a recent article in The Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics reported that in 8 weeks a cupful a day reduced the blood pressure in post menopausal women without them changing their diet or exercise routines.  Fantastic!

And talking of blood pressure rising…………….another great recipe to keep the small people happy (aka children) frozen blueberries and frozen banana blended with a little coconut milk and maybe sweetened with a tiny bit of honey and you have a wonderful instant ice cream that is good enough to calm anyone down.

So rounding up and in the words of Demi Lavato (or for the purists Idina Menzel) “let it go, let it go”………but this time into to your daily diet and make sure you include blueberries on your shopping list.
